2011 New Year's Eve & The Great Arts Centre Spire Fire
For New Years Eve 2011-12 in Melbourne, the theme was "gold": many of the fireworks had a golden hue, and buildings like the Arts Centre and the Rialto were coloured yellow/gold. The unexpected highlight of the night was when the Art Centre Spire caught fire and burned for almost an hour sending cascades of flame down onto the Centre below and starting new fires.

It's hard to tell whether the fire at started at this stage (12:07). But even once it was well underway it didn't significantly spoil the fireworks launching from the spire.
