Chinaman's Dam

Constructed by the Buckland Hydraulic Sluicing Company in 1898, collapsed 1899. Sluicing companies constructed dams to provide high pressure water (via pipes) to a number of miners (in this case down in the Buckland Valley) so that they could extract gold from rocks and gravel.

Spider

Michael K. reckoned this was a southern funnel web spider (and for all I know about spiders, he's correct). However, when I look at my book "Spiders & Scorpians Commonly found in Victoria", I think this looks most like a Wolf Spider (Lycosidae), a ground dwelling hunter

Kookaburra

Macs Point Track

David, Dennis & Dale. The Macs Point track has the reputation of being cursed: Thunderstorms, split groups, destroyed lenses, sunglasses falling between rocks, lost Lachlans, etc.. In 2019 we (cautiously) tried it again. Without any catastrophes! Hooray!

Box Brownie photograph

I took this photo using a very simple Box Brownie II film camera which uses 127 sized film. This camera produces large negatives that are beautifully clear in the centre and nicely blurred towards the edges.
